Backstory

During my time in college of fall quarter 2021, my class was tasked in developing assets for a museum that we all had to share among each other to bring our separate museums to life and fill them with contents a museum would carry. One of these assets that I was assigned was a vintage capture camera that had to be between the 1800-1900s era. I decided the camera should be used as an experiment to how few poly's it should take to develop a unique device. Using a variety of reference photos I combined aspects of different vintage cameras into one simple piece that would do the job. Since my learning years this camera has been through 3 different iterations to the final result seen here.

Development

When developing this asset, it was important to keep in mind how it functions and operates as the real world vintage glass captures do. While collecting reference, I put the extra time to research how these older relics operated and reflected what I should keep in the simple 3D model version. The end result was a minimal 10k poly asset with simple geometry modeled in Maya and textured in Substance Painter. 3 Versions of this camera were developed while still learning the software during the time I attended college at Lake Washington Institute of Technology, the final iteration is a result of time and hours put into learning these different software improving model assets over time.
